Kinesiology student leads fitness initiative during internship

AUGUSTA, GA. – John Felak had a lot of good things to say about his most recent intern. The Program Coordinator with North Augusta Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services worked with College of Education kinesiology graduate Jessica (Carpenter) Kottkamp for nine months as she finished her senior year and strove to gain the professional experience that would help her launch a career doing what she loves.

“We have been fortunate over the years to have interns, but Jessica was certainly one of the best. A quick learner, she proved to be efficient, accurate and friendly,” Felak recently told the North Augusta Star newspaper.

Kottkamp not only cheerfully completed tasks that interns expect to do – like working the front desk and answering phone – but she also assisted users of the center with instruction on proper use of exercise equipment, and led a class called “Couch to 5K.”

In addition to her excellent work as a student, while a student at GRU, Kottkamp was also a member of the Jaguars Cross Country team.
